Project Moses FAQ
What is the price of the large monuments?
Price of the monuments varies according to the type of stone used. The white marble, red granite, and black granite monuments are $4000. The monuments made from the off-white, sand colored marble from Mt. Sinai are $4500. Shipping charges for the large monuments are extra.
How much are the shipping charges for a large monument?
Shipping charges are dependent mostly on distance and fuel costs. Average shipping charges for the large monuments fall between $300 and $450. Remote areas may be more. Contact our office at 1-888-667-3710 for ideas on how to save on some of the charges.
Do you have any ideas how we can raise that kind of money?
Yes. We offer the Ten Commandment small monuments and plaques at discounted prices for faith based organizations to use in fundraising for both the purchase of a large Ten Commandment monument or any other need the organization may have. Click the "Money For You" at the top of the page or call our office at 1-888-667-3710 or contact us at chris@projectmoses.com for more information. You may also like to consider successful fundraising techniques used in your church in the past or asking specific church members directly for donations. We are available to discuss various options with you.
What size monuments are available?
We have two sizes of the monuments in each of the four stone types. The large monuments are 64” (5 foot 4 inches) tall, 40” wide, 24” deep and weigh 850 pounds. Miniature monuments are 16” tall, 10” wide, 6” deep and are approximately 35 pounds.
So the monuments are hollow?
Yes. After nearly 3 years of research and talking to monument companies all over the U.S., the founder of Project Moses was frustrated at the cost and weight of solid stone monuments (The price of monuments of this size, made of solid stone, would be at least five times as much as the ones offered by Project Moses. The weight of the monument would also be increased by about 800% driving up the shipping costs in a like manner) and came across an atheistic man who has lived and worked in Kansas City, Missouri for the last 28 years producing beautiful marble and granite furniture for the restaurant industry who was interested in solving this problem and being a part of the Project Moses mission. Isn’t God good? Read below to see how they are made.
Where and how are the monuments made?
After the stone in mined, it is cut into I ½ inch slabs of the stone and shipped to China and fabricated by Art Marble Furniture, a company based in Kansas City, Missouri that specializes in stone-topped tables and desks. Because the stone is a natural product, it can vary considerably in color so it is laid out on the floor in a large building. The workers walk among the slabs of stone matching like colors. The stone is then cut into the correct sizes and shapes and glued together using a two-part epoxy. This process actually makes the final product stronger than a solid piece of stone because veins do not run through the entire monument. After assembling the pieces, the stone workers sandblast the text into the stone and then hand paint the lettering and border with an automotive paint. The final step involves three coats of a sealant, buffing the stone to high sheen and crating it for shipment to the warehouse in Kansas City. It is true that the large monuments are manufactured in China but it is through an American Co. from KC MO - Artmarble furniture. Most of the scare of China products have been in the food industry not hard goods and to tell you the truth God is causing conversions for these aetheistic workers in China who sandblast the Commandments everyday for us. For many of them it is the first time they have ever come in contact with God's law.
We have heard horror stories of working conditions in different parts of the world. Can you assure us that the workers making these monuments are treated fairly?
Yes. The founder of Project Moses made several trips to the factory in China to inspect the work environment. What he witnessed assured him that those building the monuments are treated fairly and equitably.
Will the monument for our church be shipped directly from China?
No. The company that fabricates our monuments, Art Marble Furniture, holds the monuments in their warehouse. The monuments are shipped from the Kansas City area.
How are the monuments shipped?
Small monuments are shipped by United Parcel Service (UPS). The large monuments are
shipped by truck.
How long will it take to get a large monument to our church?
Shipping times for large monuments vary depending on how far you are from the Kansas City area. Shipping
times can be anywhere from 5 to 10 business days (assuming you have reserved a monument with a 50% deposit and it is in the warehouse when you call), not counting the day the it is picked up from the warehouse.
How long will it take if you do not have the color of stone we prefer in stock?
Fabricating the monuments, in addition to shipping them from halfway around the world, takes time. If we do not have your preferred color in stock at the time you order your monument, it usually takes at least 12 - 16 weeks to receive your monument.
What if we want a monument with only the Ten Commandments on it? Do you have monuments with only one side printed?
Yes, however, it would be considered a special order and shipping time would be at least 12 weeks.
Do you provide monuments in other languages?
Yes, We produce our monuments in Spanish and English. with orders now coming from Quebec CA we are considering French as well. At this time, any language other than English or Spanish would be considered a special order with some additional charges for graphic changes.
How do we place an order for a monument?
In order for us to personalize delivery of your large monument as much as possible, orders should be placed by calling 1-888-667-3710. Small monuments may be ordered from the web site or by calling the above number.
What method of payment do you accept and when do we need to send it?
Payment may be made by VISA, Master Card, or check. Checks should be made out and mailed to: Project Moses, 115 N. 36th St., Omaha, NE 68131. We do ask that full payment be received in our Omaha office before shipment. Since freight charges are so dependent on current fuel costs, the exact charge will not be known until it actually leaves the warehouse. We will bill you later for the shipping charges.
We aren’t ready to place our monument yet. Is there anything we can do to assure you will have the color we want when we are ready?
Yes. If you send a 50% deposit to our Omaha office, we will either tag an existing monument in the warehouse or if necessary begin production of your monument making it available in approximately 12 weeks from the date of the deposit. If you are still not ready to receive it at the end of that 12 week period, we will hold it in inventory until you are ready to receive your monument.
What do we need to do before the monument arrives?
The large monuments require a 4” thick concrete pad to sit on to prevent it from sinking into the ground over time. The minimum size pad necessary should be 48” x 28” x 4” thick. This can be accomplished easily by removing any sod from the site and then using 2 x 4 lumber to make the form for the concrete. Readymix cement can be prepared on site. The concrete will need at least 10 days to cure before placing the weight of the monument on it. Some churches have expanded the monument area by using paving stones to create a pathway and small prayer garden around the monument. We have also heard from some churches how they have installed lighting and / or a flagpole to fly the Stars & Stripes. Several young man have used the installation of this type of landscaping as their Eagle Scout project.
We are worried about vandalism if we place a monument at our church. What can be done to prevent it?
There really is nothing that can be done to prevent vandalism short of posting a guard 24 hours a day. This is where your faith comes in. You are placing God’s Laws for all can see, in the hope of restoring respect to His Commandments in your community. Ask Him to send His Angels to protect your efforts. It may make you feel better to know that in the more than two years that Project Moses has been placing monuments across the country, we have not had any reported cases of vandalism.
But what if something does happen?
Three cemetery monument company owners from different parts of the country have told us that a monument of this size (weight and depth of the base) would be nearly impossible to tip over by hand. If permanent damage is done, contact your property insurance agent and make a claim.
If graffiti is a concern, the three layers of sealant should be enough to protect the stone from any permanent staining. A strong paint remover should take care of anything sprayed or thrown on the monument. Unfortunately, the sealant would probably be removed at the same time but the same type of sealant is easily obtainable at any home improvement center. Ask for a good, general stone sealant used on patios and walkways. Some home improvement centers may have sealants specific for marbles or granites. Be sure to ask if yours carries specialized sealants. After applying the sealant, use a car buffer to bring it back to its full shine.
